"Pearl" to be featured at Chickasaw Cultural Center Theatre in May

"Pearl," the award-winning film produced by the Chickasaw Nation, will be featured throughout the month of May at the Anoli' Theater, located inside the Chickasaw Cultural Center, Sulphur, Okla.

Experience this family-friendly film on the larger-than-life movie screen every Wednesday through Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in May.

The film focuses on the exceptional teen years of the late Pearl Carter Scott, a Chickasaw girl from Marlow, Okla., who earned her pilot’s license at age 13 in 1928. Pearl was performing as a barnstormer and commercial pilot by age 14.

Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby said the story of the Chickasaw aviatrix was a natural for the tribe's first feature-length film project.

"Pearl is a legendary figure in the history of Oklahoma, the world of aviation and in the Chickasaw Nation," said Gov. Anoatubby. “This film enables people to relive some of the significant moments in her life – moments which define what made her truly great and reaffirm the importance of family relationships."

The Dove Foundation awarded "Pearl" four "Doves," giving the film its 'Family-Approved' Seal for all ages.

Since its debut, "Pearl" has made a successful and highly-lauded run on the film festival circuit.

The film won the award as best overall film at the 2010 Trail Dance Film Festival in Duncan, Okla. and sold out four matinee performances at the “Heartland Film Festival" in Indianapolis.

“Pearl" also won a prestigious “Best of Show" award from "The Indie Fest," and swept the feature docudrama category at the "International Cherokee Film Festival."

The movie was filmed at various locations in Oklahoma, including the historic Harn Homestead in Oklahoma City, the El Reno Municipal Airport, and several locations in and around Guthrie.

Admission to the Anoli’ Theatre is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 12, and $5 for Chickasaw Citizens, senior citizens, Native Americans and active military members.

A free gift is included with admission, while supplies last.  A different "Pearl" item will be given away in May including:

  • May 3-8- special gift for mom: a t-shirt and Bedre chocolate
  • May 10-15 free "Pearl" movie posters
  • May 16- 21 free "Pearl" Music CD
