IKBI: Build with Toy Bricks Exhibit

IKBI: Build with Toy Bricks Exhibit

Year exhibited 2016

IKBI: Build with Toy Bricks exhibit featured art created entirely out of toy bricks. The exhibit showcased art in a child-friendly, interactive and colorful way. The expressions ranged from murals built of toy bricks to a life-size car. The exhibit featured several hands-on learning activities including work stations that allowed visitors to create their own masterpiece from toy bricks.

There were four Chickasaw-themed brick art mosaics each representing an aspect of Chickasaw culture such as the warrior spirit, the gift of music, living in harmony with the land and traditional diplomacy. One of the more popular aspects of the exhibit was the car racing station. Visitors built cars and raced them down tracks using gravity and different car body models to compete. One of the most incredible brick creations was a village based on the Chikasha Inchokka Traditional Chickasaw Village from the 1750s era.

Several groups and individuals contributed to this wonderful exhibit, including The City of Greeley Museums, Greeley, CO, Heard Museum staff and volunteers, including Dave Shaddix, Lalo Cota and Navajo artist, Marlowe Katoney, Chickasaw Nation Division of Creative Services, Multimedia Department, Chickasaw Nation Science, Technology and Math Academy (STEM), Chickasaw artist, Paul Wall and Chickasaw Cultural Center staff.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring IKBI to the Chickasaw Cultural Center!
