The butterfly (hatalhposhik) holds a special significance to the Chickasaw people, and the Chickasaw Cultural Center is dedicated to the conservation efforts of these pollinators.
Guests will have the opportunity to participate in horticulture activities like a plant and caterpillar cup giveaway as well as explore a butterfly tent where patrons can directly interact with dozens of butterflies.
Be sure to visit the Butterfly Garden, a special oasis dedicated to these fluttering creatures of beauty and grace. This garden is filled with nectar-producing plants for butterflies to enjoy during their cultural center visit as they migrate between the northern United States and Mexico. In addition, the garden has large butterfly statues and educational panels to learn more about the monarch butterfly and conservation efforts to aid in restoring the population.
Coinciding with the National Learn About Butterflies Day festivities, regular scheduled cultural activities and demonstrations will continue to occur across campus from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
