The Chickasaw Cultural Center will host Ithana: The Learn and Lunch Series at noon on Feb. 24.

Due to overwhelming demand, this will take place in the Anoli' Theater.

The presentations are free and open to the public. There is an optional lunch available to purchase which includes an entrée and drink.

"Chickasaw Food Sovereignty: Activities, Values, Challenges, Strategies and Visions for the Future" presented by Sierra Hampton

Biography:

Sierra Hampton is a Chickasaw citizen and has a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of California (UC) Berkeley and a Master of Science in international development and management from Lund University in Sweden. She completed her master's thesis in Aotearoa on the role of the United Nations' Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples' role there, from the perspective of Māori activists. Hampton is very interested in food and seed sovereignty as well as Indigenous food systems. She has engaged in the food system as a gardener, seed keeper, vermiculturist, cook and avid eater. Hampton's current research as a doctoral candidate in UC Berkeley’s environmental science, policy and management department analyzes the Chickasaw Nation food system through Indigenous food sovereignty.
