The Three Sisters Spring Celebration

The Three Sisters Spring Celebration is one of our biggest events of the year. It takes place during spring break and is always filled with fun outdoor activities.

What are the “Three Sisters” you ask?

The Chickasaw people refer to corn, beans and squash as the “Three Sisters.” An ancient method of gardening, "Three Sisters" uses an intercropping system to grow corn, beans and squash simultaneously. It provides long-term soil fertility and healthy crops of food.

My favorite aspect of the entire week was the Living Village. It was so neat getting to see how the Chickasaw people lived hundreds of years ago.

There were several living history players dressed in traditional clothing in the village.

It was like walking back in time to the 1700s.

They gave demonstrations on preparing a garden, planting and cultivating crops. Other activities included cooking demonstrations,

And of course, stomp dancing!

I almost forgot! This week wouldn’t have been complete without a visit from our favorite kids!
